Back by popular demand, the Great South Bay Music Festival welcomes "Ye Pyrate Brotherhood", a historically based troupe of "rogues, scallywags, buccaneers, and yes, pirates", who are  sailing to these shores in search of fun, fortune and treasure.

This year, the Great South Bay Music Festival is proud to welcome back "Ye Pyrate Brotherhood", a unique group of performers whose main goal is “to educate the public as to the lifestyles and business practices of ordinary seamen during the period of 1650 to 1730,… and to teach the differences between Privateers, Pirates and Buccaneers”.

Their real aim is to have fun, while exploring the history, fact and fiction of the "Golden Age of Piracy".

There’s treasure to be had in "Patchogue" and they mean to find it, but they need your help, since it’s rumored to be "cursed".

The pirate crew will set up camp on Patchogue’s beautiful shore as they take you on a journey to find the "cursed" treasure, and break that curse so all can share in the plunder and booty.

The group teaches Children and Adults history while they have an enjoyable experience through hands-on activities, demonstrations and songs. "Ye Pirate Brotherhood" ultimately hopes to re-create the "Brethren of the Coast" a legendary governing body outlined by Captain Henry Morgan.

The pirate crew will present an accurate portrayal of the lifestyle, manner of dress and speech, common knowledge and skills, weapons, tools, and crew organization of both pirates and ordinary seamen both afloat and ashore during the Golden Age of Piracy.

For Marla Lewis, music is a way of life. She began singing as soon as she learned to talk! At the age of 3, she sang on a national radio talent show called, “Live Like a Millionaire”. She started piano lessons at the age of 5 and guitar a few years later. As a child, Marla loved to sing songs in many languages from around the world. Her mother, also a singer, introduced her to jazz, Dixieland, and opera. Marla also fell in love with folk and pop music. She wrote her first song at the age of 12, entitled, “Hopeless Love.” It still makes her friends chuckle. Today, when kids hear Marla's songs, they say: "Can we hear that AGAIN??"

For several decades, Marla sang and played guitar on the college and coffee house circuit. Twenty years ago, Marla began teaching Music and English as a Second Language to elementary school children in the Bronx. She also began writing songs for children and performing her lively family concerts in libraries and Parks throughout the New York City area.

She has also conducted numerous Music and Literacy workshops for teachers throughout the Tri-state area. Participants in her workshops rave: "Marla has inspired me to begin to use music across the curriculum in my classroom."

To date, Marla Has released two CD's for children on her record label, PlumJuice. The most recent, titled, "I Love to Talk to Plants," released in October of 2007, embraces Brazilian, African, Big Band, and Country influences, and more! Many of her songs are inspired by children's picture books. This CD has won the National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval, Parents' Choice ® Gold, and Grand Prize in the Great American Song Contest for the song, "Mighty Jackie, the Strikeout Queen."

"We All Laugh in the Same Language," her first release, is an upbeat CD that celebrates positive values, love of learning, and cultural diversity. True to her childhood tradition, her songs embrace a great variety of styles, from Dixieland to Chinese to Hawaiian, and more. In addition, We All Laugh has won numerous national and international awards, including Parents’ Choice and NAPPA Gold.

Marla also loves to write children’s musicals and children’s books. She feels very privileged to be able to educate children through her songs and says that teaching inspires her music, as music inspires her teaching.

Indie-rock band Still Saffire is the coming together of two sets of 13- 16-y-o sisters(Sonya and Charlotte/Soreya and Annika) who have a knack for writing songs that are engaging and relevant, coupled with a sophistication and maturity that belies their youth.  When the band formed in early 2009, each girl brought forward her own musical talents and interests stemming from rock to pop to jazz to blues to classical.  What emerged are the catchy, harmony-filled tunes of Still Saffire that have already begun to grace the NY tri-state area’s music clubs, auditoriums, and airwaves.
Quick to be embraced by the NYC community, Still Saffire has had the privilege of performing at a wide range of venues including Lincoln Center’s ‘Out Of Doors’ summer concert series, Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York University, Rutgers University, The Knitting Factory and more. One of Still Saffire’s missions is to ‘play for a cause’ and, in their short time together, the band has performed at over thirty benefits and fund raisers.  They established the ‘Still Saffire Sisters Scholarship Fund’ which offers sisters the opportunity to experience a summer program at Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls in Brooklyn, NY, a non-profit organization whose aim is to empower and mentor girls through music.  Still Saffire also launched a tee-shirt project to raise money for the ongoing relief efforts of Partners in Health in Haiti.  To date, over $1000 has been donated to PIH.

They are talented, fresh sounding, socially conscious young musicians who are doing what they love most – playing music and making a difference in the world.

Steve Hennessy is Dr. Planet

Steve Hennessy has always had his head in the stars!

An entertainer of international experience for 38 years Steve has developed Dr. Planet - a combination of musical culture and curriculum-based information on the solar system.

A parent and former school board member he is keenly aware of the need to supplement the subjects taught in school with material that is innovative and fun.

"Dr. Planet" captures the children's imagination with clever lyrics, catchy songs that combine useful information with having fun. Music is a common denominator that can be used to convey subject material as well as the pure enjoyment derived from listening and participating.

As a world traveled and now, interplanetary musician Steve has found the response to music is the same everywhere, creating an impact that has no bounds or limitations. Music presented in a variety of styles and forms also enhances the discovery of the art itself. Combined with curriculum based subject matter makes it all the more special.

Steve lives with his wife and family at his spaceport nestled in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. He plans to continue to update his travels through the solar system on his website.
